Best Overall Time for Safari in Tanzania: June to October
This is the dry season and widely considered the best time for a classic safari experience.
✅ Why it’s ideal:
Wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around waterholes
Grass is shorter, making it easier to see predators
Little to no rain, with sunny days and cooler nights
Fewer mosquitoes and lower malaria risk
🌟 Highlights:
The Great Wildebeest Migration (June to August) in the Serengeti
Excellent game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and Ruaha
🌧️ Green Season (November to March): Lush and Beautiful
This is Tanzania’s short rainy season followed by a lush, vibrant period.
✅ Why consider this time:
Fewer tourists — more intimate experiences
Stunning green landscapes and dramatic skies
Perfect for photography and birdwatching (migratory birds arrive)
Lodges offer lower rates
🌟 Highlights:
Calving season in Southern Serengeti (Jan–Mar) — predators are very active!
Cultural experiences with less crowded visits to tribes like the Maasai and Hadza
🌧️ Avoid if Possible: Long Rains (April & May)
This is the peak of the rainy season, and many lodges close temporarily.
⚠️ Challenges:
Dirt roads can become impassable
Game viewing is more difficult due to thick vegetation
High chance of daily showers or storms
But… if you’re adventurous and want very low prices, some parks are still accessible, especially northern circuit areas like Ngorongoro Crater.
Proud Of Tanzania Safaris Tip:
For wildlife migration: Go between June and August (crossing rivers) or January to March (calving season)
For photography & birding: Choose November to March
For budget-friendly safaris: Try shoulder months like May or November
