Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Start Elevation: 1,800m (5,905 ft)

  • End Elevation: 3,010m (9,875 ft)

  • Distance: 11 km

  • Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

  • Vegetation: Rainforest
    Activities:

  • Drive from Moshi/Arusha to Machame Gate for registration.

  • Begin trek through lush rainforest filled with birdlife and monkeys.

  • Climb steadily to Machame Camp, nestled in a forest glade.

  • Dinner and overnight at camp.


Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Start Elevation: 3,010m

  • End Elevation: 3,845m (12,615 ft)

  • Distance: 5 km

  • Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

  • Vegetation: Moorland
    Activities:

  • Climb out of the rainforest into the moorland zone.

  • Enjoy wide views of Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak.

  • Overnight at Shira Camp with views of Mt. Meru in the distance.


Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

  • Start Elevation: 3,845m

  • Lava Tower: 4,630m (15,190 ft)

  • End Elevation: 3,960m (12,992 ft)

  • Distance: 10 km

  • Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

  • Vegetation: Alpine desert
    Activities:

  • Trek through alpine desert to the iconic Lava Tower for acclimatization.

  • After lunch at Lava Tower, descend to Barranco Camp.

  • The descent helps your body adjust to altitude.

  • Overnight beneath the stunning Barranco Wall.


Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Start Elevation: 3,960m

  • End Elevation: 4,035m (13,238 ft)

  • Distance: 5 km

  • Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

  • Vegetation: Alpine desert
    Activities:

  • Climb the famous Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”) – fun and challenging.

  • Continue along undulating terrain to Karanga Valley.

  • Arrive early for rest or an optional acclimatization hike.

  • Overnight at Karanga Camp.


Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Start Elevation: 4,035m

  • End Elevation: 4,673m (15,331 ft)

  • Distance: 4 km

  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

  • Vegetation: Alpine desert
    Activities:

  • Short hike uphill to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit.

  • Early dinner and rest in preparation for the midnight summit push.

  • Try to sleep early; summit day begins before midnight.


Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then to Mweka Camp

  • Start Elevation: 4,673m

  • Summit: 5,895m (Uhuru Peak – Roof of Africa!)

  • End Elevation: 3,110m

  • Distance: 17 km total (7 km up / 10 km down)

  • Hiking Time: 12–14 hours total
    Activities:

  • Start around midnight with headlamps to begin the toughest part of the trek.

  • Reach Stella Point (5,756m), then push to Uhuru Peak.

  • Watch the sunrise from the top of Africa!

  • Descend all the way back to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.


Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Start Elevation: 3,110m

  • End Elevation: 1,640m

  • Distance: 10 km

  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

  • Vegetation: Rainforest
    Activities:

  • Final descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate.

  • Receive your summit certificates (green for Stella Point, gold for Uhuru Peak).

  • Transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a warm shower and celebration.


 Accommodation:

  • Camping in dome tents with sleeping mats

  • Mess tents with tables and chairs for meals

  • Porters carry all gear and set up camp

  • Optional: Portable toilet tent (on request)
